The American Modern Ensemble is based in New York City and was formed in 2005 with the goal of premiering, performing and recording and commissioning the widest possible repertoire written by American composers. The focus is to celebrate and showcase American music and especially works written by living composers. Each season, we choose one American composer to feature on a program devoted to his or her music. AME is also dedicated to education and outreach programs that expose communities to American music, and particularly to new music written by living composers.
Sinfonietta: flute (doubling alto flute and piccolo), clarinet (doubling bass clarinet and E-flat clarinet), oboe (doubling English horn), bassoon (doubling contra bassoon), horn, trumpet (C trumpet, B-flat trumpet and piccolo trumpets in E-flat and D), trombone, percussion, piano (doubling synthesizer), two violins, viola, violoncello, bass, conductor.
The American Modern Ensemble accepts unsolicited submissions on an ongoing basis, but please note that we only review unsolicited materials during the last week in January each year. Scores should be emailed as PDF files or sent via postal mail, with links to audio files or a CD recording if available (high quality MIDI recordings are OK). You may submit up to three works, in order of listening preference, that best represent you and that fall within AME's instrumentation. Smaller subsets are acceptable. Please do not send parts unless requested. Be sure to include your contact information. All submissions will be thoroughly reviewed, but due to the volume of submissions, we cannot acknowledge receipt of materials and they will not be returned. Please send all submissions to the general mailing address on our Contact Us page. For tips and suggestions on submitting materials, please read Tips on Submitting Compositions to AME.
