Submissions

AME only performs works by American composers (North, Central or South America). We accept unsolicited submissions on an ongoing basis via email, which we review during the first week in January each year. We only accept works as MP3s (for sound files) and/or PDFs (scores, bios, works lists and cover letters).

We prefer to receive recordings as well as scores, if at all possible, as it speeds up the decision-making process. We don't judge a work based on the quality of the recording, as long as the recording reasonably represents what the work sounds like.

NOTE: we do not accept materials via postal mail except under special circumstances. Email us first before mailing any materials via postal mail. Materials sent via postal mail without permission will be discarded. You do not need to contact us first for permission to email materials. We do not review materials via website links.

When emailing materials, please enclose all files in a single zipped folder (see below) titled exactly as follows, replacing the word 'Name' with your last name and 'Year' with the year you are submitting:

AME-Submission-Year-Name

A submission will then look something like this:

AME-Submission-2012-Smith.zip

Email folder as a Zip (compressed) file, which will place the suffix .zip at the end of the folder name. To create a Zip file on a PC in Windows XP, select the folder, then right-click and select "Send To" and "Compressed (zipped) Folder"; on a Macintosh in OSX, Control-click on the folder and choose Create Archive. The email subject line should be titled exactly like the folder (i.e., AME-Submission-2009-Name).

Attach the Zip file to an email message (our server is set up to handle large files). Title the email with the title above (AME-Submission-2010-Name). Do not send using a file delivery site such as yousendit, mailbigfile, etc. unless absolutely necessary. We are able to receive very large files in email messages, but some service providers such as American Online and phone companies (i.e., Verizon) limit the sizes of files that can be emailed. In that case, a file delivery site may be used.

You may submit up to three works that best represent you and that fall within AME's core instrumentation. Smaller subsets (but absolutely no solos) are acceptable and encouraged. We generally do not program too many works with standard groupings (i.e., string quartets, wind quintets, etc.), but you may submit them if they best represet your best work. Please do not email parts unless requested. Be sure to include your contact information in your email message, particularly a phone number. All submissions will be thoroughly reviewed, but due to the volume of submissions, we cannot acknowledge receipt of materials.

For more tips and suggestions on submitting materials, please read our Tips on Submitting Compositions to AME.

Email all materials in a Zip file to: .

Submissions not conforming to these guidelines will be discarded.
