"Devoting a program to Minimalist and microtonal compositions could easily amount to an egghead agenda; leave it to the American Modern Ensemble to make it a party instead." - The New York Times

American Modern Ensemble Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary Season

Our final program on June 24 and 25, Powerhouse Pianists II, will feature our pianists Stephen Gosling and Blair McMillen performing works for two pianos, including Hallelujah Junction by John Adams, Chiaroscuro by John Corigliano, Kilter by Mary Ellen Childs, Subway by Amanda Harberg, Dilukkenjon by Doug Opel, the world premiere of Deep Blue Ocean by Robert Paterson and Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues by Frederic Rzewski. Hear these two titans of the piano world and purchase autographed copies of their Powerhouse Pianists CD from our sold-out show from our first season.

Our first program on Tuesday, November 3 was entitled M&Ms - all minimalism and microtones. The concert took place at Brooklyn's ultra hip club, Galapagos Art Space. The program included works by Philip Glass, Ben Johnston Ingram Marshall, Steve Reich and Spencer Topel.

Our second program on Monday, February 8 explored five of America's finest composers, and included the 75th birthday celebration of MacArthur Genius Award winner John Eaton. The program included works by Steven Burke, Sebastian Currier, Robert Paterson and Christopher Rouse.

These concerts are made possible, in part, with support from Meet the Composer's JPMorganChase Regrant Program for Small Ensembles, and with support from the Jarvis & Constance Doctorow Family Foundation. Women Who Rock is made possible, in part, with public funds from the Fund for Creative Communities, supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
